Textual analysis of Q magazine

The image created on the front cover tells us that this magazine is going to be a fun filled read this is as they have used a wave to create a sense of excitement. Within the wave there are lots of people which show that the magazine will be full with information. The front cover is a special collector’s addition which also had a fold out extension to the front cover, and is created by Jamie Hewlett who is a very famous graphic designer who had created the animations for the world famous band called Gorillaz. As the title of the main feature they say “ Gorillaz & A Star-Studded Crew Set Sail Again” this is a very clever turn of phrase as the front cover is a image of the Gorillaz setting sail across a bumpy ocean, this could signify that they are going on a journey but it will consist of come troublesome times. Other article titles of the magazine are shown at the bottom of the front cover and are made to be eye catching after your initial look at the front cover. The articles seem to be quite strange for a music magazine for example one of the titles is “Wayne Rooney Interviews Stereophonics” this is strange as why would a professional football player interview one of the most famous bands in the world. Other sub articles include catchy phrases that would make you read on for example “Cocaine break anyone?” and “Sex with long hair is rubbish”.

Action plan

This is my action plan for my media coursework peice. I have been told to create a music magazine. I have to create a Front cover, a Contents page and a double page spread. I think that this piece of coursework will be alot of fun and am very looking forward to create my magazine.

Self evaluation

In this unit I created a student magazine this included a front cover and a contents page.

On the front cover I included such things as a masthead, a headline and sub headlines. I then put images on the front cover this is as it draws the audience into the magazine. I had included most of the main things that a normal student magazine would contain. The only thing that I didn’t include was a price for the magazine. I used some of the ways that some student magazines included but changed it to my simplistic type of style.

Most people would believe that as it is a student magazine, and all students are lazy and are drunken young hooligans, then the magazine would be just to advertise parties and nights out. I believe I have succumbed the stereotypical view of students. This is as on the front cover the main headline is about how talented some students are at creative arts in college. I think that I have portrayed a positive image of the students at Ludlow College. The institution that would publish my magazine would be the college.

The audience for my magazine would be for 16-20 year olds and would be aimed at both males and females. I think that people who wanted to know more about college life and what people are doing around the college would be interested in this magazine.

I think that people would be persuaded to buy this magazine because it is very bright and the background photo is very eye catching. I have used a simplistic layout this is as I feel that you can concentrate on the images better this way, as I didn’t want to make it to busy.

I have learnt a lot about blogging as I had never done it before so it was a new experience for me. I used a lot of technology including; a digital camera, publisher, word and Eblogger.

I feel that I have worked well in this unit I just need to spend my time more efficiently and organise myself better.

After my photoshoot i had alot of photographs that were acceptable for my student magazine. Can you comment and deside what photos you think should be on in the magazine.
